My name is Erica McCabe, and I am a third-year law student from Emporia, Kansas. I graduated from the University of Kansas in December of 2011 with a degree in political science and a co-major in international studies.

After graduation, I decided I was ready for a change of scenery, so I packed all of my belongings into my car and moved to Washington, D.C., to pursue an internship in the nonprofit sector. Four months after my move, I was accepted into the Teach for America program, which relocated me back to Kansas City, Missouri.

During my two years with Teach for America, I worked as a middle and high school special education teacher at the African-Centered College Preparatory Academy, and obtained my Master of Education from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. This experience was formative in so many ways, but most importantly it sparked a deeper understanding of the value of community.

While searching for the perfect law school, I allowed my passion for community to guide my decision-making process, and I discovered it was here, at the University of Kansas, that I felt most at home.
